Deal for Hairston gives A's flexibility

The A’s added a much-needed bat on Sunday when they acquired outfielder Scott Hairston from the Padres in exchange for Minor League right-handers Ryan Webb and Craig Italiano, in addition to a player to be named.
Hairston was batting .299 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs in 56 games with the Padres this season, spending time in center and left field. His .891 on-base-plus-slugging percentage was the second-best mark on his team, behind only All-Star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.
