Ryan Whitney’s role expands with Ducks

Ryan Whitney admits it. While he was happy his former Penguins teammates defeated the Red Wings to win the Stanley Cup in June, he found it difficult to watch them become champions just a few months after he was traded from Pittsburgh to the Ducks.
“I was there for four years. Those are my friends and guys who I grew up with in the minors, so it was tough. I’m not going to lie to you,” said Whitney, who was acquired in exchange for winger Chris Kunitz and prospect Eric Tangradi.
“But now it’s our turn here.”
